Tehachapi Mountain Valleys Wine Growers Association
Welcome!
Looking for something fun and affordable to see and do? Come to one of California’s unique treasures: Tehachapi. The place where the Sierra Nevada Mountains, the California Central Valley and the great Mojave Desert all come together is in the Tehachapi Mountains.
Enjoy wine tasting at two of California’s newest vineyards, hiking along the Pacific Coast Trial, balloon rides or just enjoying the clean, fresh mountain air. Our Land of Four Seasons has something for all ages at all times of the year. You can see alpaca and ostrich farms, organic farms, and of course one of the world’s biggest clean-energy wind turbine farms. And, of course, the world famous Tehachapi Loop. Just two hours from Los Angeles and little more from Fresno in the mountains between Bakersfield and the city of Mojave. Come for an afternoon or make it a mini-vacation weekend.
Come and discover the Souza Family Vineyard’s Primitivo Zinfandel which has earned Silver, Bronze and Gold in it’s first three vintages. Our unique elevation, soils and climate are making for outstanding premium grape growing potential as documented by enologist Ralph Carter’s application for a special Appellation from the Federal Government.
The Tehachapi Mountain Valleys Wine Growers Association, in conjunction with several of our local vineyard owners, also provides public education opportunities such as hands-on time in the vineyard learning how to prune vines or help bring in the crop. Who knows, you may be the next new vineyard owner.
Check back with our calendar and our “Wine Guy” blog written by the award winning wine guy Bob Souza of Souza Family Vineyards for some of our latest happenings.
